Valley of the Wind

The movie Nausicaa Valley of the Wind takes us to the edge of a poisoned forest where different tribes of people live. Nausicaa is the princess of the Valley of the Wind and has a special bond with the dangerous insects that live within the poison forests. A tribe from a different area of land captures a princess from a nearby tribe along with a giant warrior they plan to bring back to life to help kill the poison forest and all the bad insects that live there. Nausicaa and her people are determined to stop this from happening as they believe they must live in peace with the forest. During one of their quests, Nausicaa crashes and ends up falling through the forest floor and realizes that was not the floor at all but a canopy of trees that is growing underneath and cleansing the water and the air. This makes Nausicaa realize just how important it is not to disturb the forest as they will then kill the trees underneath as well. Nausicaa is set with the task of not only saving her people but also saving the entire world from what could be destruction. In the end Nausicaa must risk her own life to save her village and all the people in it. This works and the insects that were coming to destroy her village go back to the forests.

For this film being as old as it is, it is well put together and thought out. It shows several different dynamics of the ecosystem. It shows the importance of trees and how they clean and filter not just the air but also the water. It also show that we must live in peace with nature to not throw off the balance we have.

  2. Hi Shayla! I had to watch the film multiple times to get the plot. You summarized it very well in your first paragraph. I also noticed the theme of sacrifice. I think you came to the right conclusion. We need more balance in the world. Take care, Zyla

  3. Hi Shayla,

Thank you for your post. I hope you are hanging in and staying healthy and happy. This movie did show a lot about the ecosystem and the limited resources we can have. It indeed shows the importance like you mentioned about the forest, trees, and overall everything. I talked about this in my post, specifically focusing on education about these topics are really important. The more knowledge about this will help society understand the importance of nature. For example when most people see bugs the choose to kill them instead of identifying the insect and letting them go. It’s simple acts of change. Anyhow, Thank you for your post. I look forward to reading more!

  4. Hi Shayla, I really liked how you talked about how the film really showed the importance of our ecosystem. The existence of the trees and how vital it is that they thrive for not just animal life but human life, for literally all of the physical world’s existence. That’s why it’s so important that we take care of the outside world around us. This film was a good reminder of that.
